About Me

Hi, I’m Joe Lam, a woodwind teacher based in Nottingham. I specialise in flute, clarinet, and saxophone lessons for students of all ages and levels — whether you're picking up an instrument for the first time or returning to music after a break.

My teaching philosophy is rooted in patience, clarity, and strong fundamentals. I believe that every student deserves a learning experience that is tailored to their pace, goals, and unique learning style. I focus on helping students build confident technique, expressive tone, and lasting enjoyment in their musical journey.

Over the years, I’ve worked with students preparing for ABRSM and Trinity exams, school performances, and personal development. I have also performed as a flautist with ensembles including the Nottingham Wind Ensemble and the Parsons Wind Orchestra, both in the UK and abroad.

Lessons are available in English, Cantonese, or Mandarin, and can be conducted in-person in Nottingham or online via Zoom.

You might also know me as Notts Music Dad – my social media space where I share thoughts on teaching, music, and family life. I’d love to connect with you, whether you're a curious beginner, a parent exploring music for your child, or an adult learner ready to start again.
